Winford Littin French

Winford “Bill” L. French passed away on June 12, 2024 from injuries resulting from a fall.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavoda Hall French; father, Doak French; mother, Hattie Jane French; brothers, James and Ralph; sister, Rosetta. Winford is survived by his sister, Reba; brother Fred; daughter, Shari (James) Massengill; grandsons, Brian (Amy), Brandon (Laura) and Michael; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Connor and Erie.  Winford left behind many family and friends who will miss him dearly.  He was a loving, generous prankster.  Retiring from the United States Navy after 22 years as Hospital Corpsmen, he remembered that time of service fondly.  He often said, “I got to go a lot of places most people don’t ever get to.  Places, as a boy in Sunbright, I never knew existed or dreamed I would go."  He always tried to better himself by going back to school, to learn new skills or to understand himself or people better.  Although not a perfect man, he strived to be the best man he could be.  He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a loyal friend.  When talking to his daughter on the phone he often ended with “I love you. Bunches and Bunches.”  Or, “God bless”.  Today he is enjoying the blessings of God, in his presence.

Family and friends will meet at 12:45pm Monday, July 22, 2024 at the East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 for an 1:00pm graveside service with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking everyone to make a donation to your favorite charity or local church to benefit those in need.
