William Oliver Townsend

William “Bill” Oliver Townsend, Jr., age 79, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April, 13, 2023.

“Dado” loved his grandchildren and supported them in everything they did. He was a Marine. He was an avid sports fan, and a Vol for life. He was a 1961 Rule High School Graduate.

He is preceded in death by parents, William Townsend, Sr., Thelma Bell Bates; sister, Bunsie Townsend and Alice Townsend; close aunt, Louis Cook.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Martha Mynatt Townsend; three children, Lee Townsend (Sheri Beth), Laura Jones (Joe) and Libby Miller (Marc); grandchildren, Callie (Douglas) Atkins, Haden Townsend, Hunter Townsend, Karsten Miller (Trent), Easton Miller, Joey Jones, Evan Townsend, Erik Townsend, Brigitte Keene (Nick); great grandchildren, Skylar Sharp, Emery Sharp, Hallie Hammer and Kevin Keene; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Chadwick; and nephew, Wesley Townsend (Kate).

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel from 6:00pm until time of funeral service at 8:00pm with Rev. Todd Stinnett officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2:45pm at Highland Memorial Cemetery for an 3:00pm graveside service. Pallbearers will be his six grandsons.
