William Emerson Shewmake Jr., affectionately known as “Emmo,” passed away at his home at the age of 35. Born on May 20, 1990, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Emmo brought light, laughter, and a fierce spirit into the lives of all who knew him.
Emmo is preceded in death by his grandparents, Godfather Herb Raggio and God brother Jacob Raggio.
Emmo is survived by his parents William “Sox” Emerson Shewmake Sr and Lucy Potts Shewmake, and siblings: Danny Potts (Allison) and their children Kendall, Samson, and Maddox; Doscher Shewmake and his son Oliver; and his sister Cierra Sperruzzi (Dan) and their daughters Jagger, Jeanie, and Ruby. To his nieces and nephews, he was proudly known as the “Funcle” — the fun uncle who always brought energy, always down for a piggyback ride, and loved to spoil them with toys.
He is also survived by some of his God family, Susan Raggio and Hannah Duffy.
Emmo had dear friends that he considered family in Rachel Young and Corey Settle, amongst many more.
Professionally, Emmo worked as an automation technician, a role that allowed him to travel the world and experience many corners of life. But no matter how far his travels took him, his heart was always drawn home — especially to the warmth of a fire and the comfort of family.
From a young age, Emmo showed discipline and talent as a competitive karate athlete, traveling globally to compete and represent with pride. That same strength and drive carried into every aspect of his life.
Emmo had a rare ability to make others laugh, feel loved, and live fully in the moment. His memory will forever live on in the stories, the laughter, and the love of those he leaves behind.
Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel with a service following at 7:00pm. Friends and family will meet at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 10:45am on Saturday, October 4, 2025, for an 11:00am graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Emmo by spending time with your loved ones, telling a great story, or simply sitting by a fire — just the way he would have liked it.
