William "Michael" Hurd

Wm. Michael Hurd of Knoxville passed away, May 12, 2026, after a short illness. Born in Lexington, KY and raised in the mountains of Harlan County, Ky. Michael loved the mountains of south east Kentucky and the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, where he had lived for nearly 30 years. Michael was recently retired from the University of Tennessee where he made many close friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents and also his father Donald R. Hurd. He is survived by his mother Helen Elaine (Sue) Hurd, siblings Denise Pasquale and Steven Hurd, his niece Isabella Pasquale, and many other friends and family. Family will receive friends at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel from 5:00-7:00pm Thursday, May 14, 2026. Family and friends will meet at 2:00pm Friday, May 15, 2026, at Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling KY for a graveside service.
