In Loving Memory of William “Bird” Thomas
February 6, 1961 – June 2, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share that William “Bird” Thomas passed away on June 2, 2025, at the age of 64.Bird loved cheering on his Vols in any sport, but nothing brought him more joy than his girls. He loved them deeply and was endlessly proud—always their biggest fan, loud, proud, and full of love. The oldest of nine siblings, Bird carried a strong sense of family throughout his life. He never met a stranger—his wit, charm, and warm smile lit up every room. He loved hard, laughed loud, and made everyone feel at home. Music was in his soul. Even when he didn’t have a drum set or sticks, Bird found a rhythm—tapping his foot, drumming with his hands on tables, chairs, or anything nearby. With a lifelong love for classic rock from the ’70s and ’80s, he carried a beat wherever he went and filled every space with music and joy. Even in the darkest times, Bird never let go of his faith. He knew it was God who carried him through—the steady presence that gave him peace, strength, and purpose when he needed it most.
He was welcomed into heaven by his Father (Jesse Thomas), Mother in law (Patricia Potter), Father-in-law (Roger Potter) , Brother-in-law(Roger “Brother” Potter), and Grandparents.
He leaves behind his wife Kim; daughters Rachel (Wil) and Megan (Casey); granddaughters Aubrey, Harper, and Lacy; his loving mother Evelyn; his eight siblings, many nieces & nephews as well as friends who loved him like family. Bird’s legacy is one of love, laughter, faith, and music. He showed us how to live with heart and leave behind joy.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in the coming weeks and will update information as it comes in. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mynattfh.com
