Willard "Will" Denver Boggs

February 2, 1930 — August 1, 2023

 

Willard “Will”  Denver Boggs, age 93, of Corryton passed away Tuesday, August 1st, 2023.   He was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War as well as many years as chaplain with the Honor Guard.  He left the military to come to Knoxville and marry the love of his life. He and Lillie were married for 62 years.  He was a faithful member of Clapp’s Chapel Church for 61 years in which he served in the roles of Lay Leader, Choir Director, Evangelism coordinator, Prison ministry leader, Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, Youth leader..”pretty much a little bit of everything.” While he loved camping, starting track meets at Gibbs HS and with Special Olympics, his greatest love was music. He not only sang in his church choir and served as choir director but also spent several years singing in Barbershop choirs. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Lillie Mae Boggs, his mother Dorothy Boggs, his Father Edgar Boggs, sister-in-law/brother-in-law Anna Ruth & Earl Felker, his siblings Leron Boggs, Jan Adsit and Eunice Lovering as well as his lifelong friends Bun and Phyllis Keller. He is survived by his children, Randy (Kathy), Ronnie, Rusty (Leslie), Becca Fisher (Ron) and Gina Legg (Warren “Opie”); grandchildren, Angela Helmick, Melissa Dockins, Kristen Trew, Christopher Legg, Allyson Stokes, Dustin Boggs, Caleb Fisher, Olivia Fisher, Angela Whitley, Heather McFarland and Jay Smith; great-grandchildren, Brycen and Graycen Feagins, Harper and Raegan Bull, Emerie and Carter Dockins, Avery Mae, William “Liam” and Hendrix Legg, Oliver Stokes, Spencer Boggs, Lauren and Logan Moody, Braden and Jacob Carroll, Nathan and Tyler Bennett and Lydia Smith; Great great grandchild Ava Ridenour, niece and nephew, Donna and Dennis Felker; sister-in-law Karen Boggs,  niece and nephew Bruce and Wendy Boggs, sister Bonnie O’Brien, special friends/caregivers, Darlene Robinson, Debbie Kitts, Rita Robinson, Donna Moore and Cyndi Hylton, the VA Home based Primary Care team of Janice Swartz NP, Laura Crowder RN, Lyndie Boyd OT and Dr. Kimberlee Young and the Amedisys Hospice team of Rose Johnson RN, Laura Ruble Social worker and Laura Bailey Aide.  The family will receive friends from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 at Clapps Chapel Church 7420 Clapps Chapel Road Corryton, TN  37721 followed by a 7:00 p.m. funeral service Dr. Chris Stanfield, Rev. David Smith and Rev. Ron Fisher officiating.  Family and friends will meet 9:45 a.m. at Clapps Chapel Cemetery for a 10:00 a.m. graveside service with full military honors presented by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.  Pallbearers: Randy Boggs, Ronnie Boggs, Rusty Boggs, Warren Legg, Christopher Legg, Dustin Boggs, Caleb Fisher and Dennis FelkerIn lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Clapp’s Chapel choir/building fund   7420 Clapps Chapel Rd. Corryton, Tn.  37721or the Gibbs High School Track team 7628 Tazewell Pike  Corryton, TN. 37721 would be greatly appreciated.
