Walter "Sonny" Clifton Bailey

Walter C. Bailey, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026. He was a lifelong active member of Central Baptist Church in Fountain City. He was known for his steady presence, his kind heartedness, and a deep love for God and for his family. He also had a servant’s heart for service as exhibited through his dedication to the Mission of Hope and other mission projects. 

He was proceeded in death by his parents William Walter and Helen Doyle Bailey, his older brother William (Buddy) Lynn Bailey, his older sister Helen Delouris Oglesby, and his younger brother Allen Doyle Bailey.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois Bailey, his children Teresa Sheets (Harry), Dale Bailey (Rhonda), and his two grandchildren, Greg Sheets and Kelly Sheets. Special thanks to all the staff at Oakwood Senior Living for their constant, loving and caring attention and to the various skilled staff members of Smoky Mountain Home Health for their loving and devoted care. We love you all for your tender hearts and caring attitudes. 

Family will receive friends at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 2:00pm-4:00pm with a funeral service to begin at 4:00pm. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood Cemetery on Tazewell Pike on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 10:45am for a 11:00am graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mission of Hope in memory of Walter Bailey.
