Vivacious and cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother Thelma Faye Weaver Phillips passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Born February 7, 1937 in Corryton, Tennessee to Mossy and Clarence Weaver, she graduated from Gibbs High School. She married her high school sweetheart, James (Jim) David Phillips in 1956 and they lived in Corryton. Raising their children in the home they built on Adair Lane she worked for Knox County Mental Health Association and Jim worked for Norfolk Southern.
Thelma was very active with her church, choir and WMU at Branville Baptist Church. She and Jim retired and took many great trips together and with family. They drove to Alaska to celebrate a special anniversary. She was legendary for her cooking skills, notably her chocolate pies and biscuits and gravy. She had a green thumb and her beautiful flowers are abundant.
Preceded in death by her parents Mossy and Clarence Weaver, her in-laws William Edgar and Jennie Phillips, brothers Edward, Eugene and Johnny.
Survived by her husband of 68 years, Jim, her children Donna, Darrell, David, Danny including Danny’s wife Melissa. Grandsons Chad Moore (wife Whitney) and Christopher Phillips. Great grandchildren include Hudson Chadwick Moore and Trinity and Kennedy Dempsey. Also survived by her beloved sisters Inez Rose and Gladys Archer plus niece Glenda Huffman. Many wonderful nieces and nephews were a part of her family oriented life.
Receiving of friends will be Monday, October 14, 2024 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Service will be at 2:00 and afterwards a procession to Little Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 9132 E. Emory Road, Corryton.
Pallbearers include Darrell Phillips, Danny Phillips, Chad Moore, Steve Weaver, Randall Weaver and Kenny Weaver.
