Teresa Hamley Allen, 72, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on May 15, 2023, after a tough battle with an extremely rare form of cancer. She was surrounded by her family who loved, pampered and comforted her during this difficult time.
Teresa, known as Momma T to so many, was born on November 15, 1950, to Jack and Hallie Hamley in Knoxville, TN.
Momma T will be greatly missed by Lon Clayton Allen, Jr (the love of her life), Amy Allen Whitfield (daughter), Morgan Whitfield (son-in-law), Sara Rae Aguero (“daughter”), Robyn Allen Froning (“daughter”) and a host of “grandkids”, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Teresa is preceded in death by her parents Jack Hamley and Hallie Monroe Hamley; brother Allen Hamley; sisters Judy Hamley Malach and Carol Hamley Mash and “grandson” Spencer Roegelein.
Momma T had the biggest heart, the most beautiful smile, and a giving heart. She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. She loved her family, the beach, cooking for anyone and everyone, her 2 dogs ~ Buddy and Charlie, decorating cookies, baking cakes, shopping from QVC and watching Days of Our Lives. She was strong-willed and stubborn…they were part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges.
She was finally able to make her dream of being a full-time chef a reality in late 2019 when she opened “The Gathering Place” tearoom in Knoxville Tennessee with her business partner and lifelong friend / “daughter” Shannon Brown. Here she met new friends and reconnected with old ones while they enjoyed her chicken salad, steak n gravy and country breakfast just to name a few.
Momma T was a strong fighter, but she is now in a much more beautiful place. We know she is free from pain, resting peacefully and enjoying the homecoming she received in heaven upon her arrival Monday evening.
Family will receive friends on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.
