Shirley Sue Hunter age 90, of Knoxville, TN., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 29, 2025. She was of the Baptist faith and a 1953 graduate of Fulton High School. Shirley was an excellent cook and baker, known to make the best snickerdoodle cookies around! She worked in the Halls Middle School Cafeteria for 31 years.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ray Hunter, parents, Joseph and Reba Toney; and brothers, Joseph Toney, Jr and Bill Toney.
She is survived by children: Jimmy Hunter (Pam), Jeff Hunter (Joy) and Gene Hunter (Robin); five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sister, Nancy Wallace of Atlanta, GA., and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 5, 2025, from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, with a funeral service to follow officiated by Rev. Jeff Hunter. Family and friends will meet Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:45am at New Gray Cemetery for an 11:00am interment service. An online obituary may be viewed, and condolences made at www.mynattfh.com. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cerebral Palsy center in Knoxville or to the Marble City Baptist Church building fund.
