Shirley Evelyn English

Shirley Evelyn (Heath) English went to be with the Lord Friday, August 2, 2024, at Emory Ridge, Memory Care, Powell, TN. Born in Halls (Knox Co) June 22, 1940, to Ida Frances (Blazier) Heath and Everette Henry Heath. Grand Daughter of William Preston Blazier and Parmelia Emmaline McCloud.

She graduated from Halls High School and studied at the University of Tennessee and Pellissippi Community College. She acquired her Real-estate and Tax License.

Though Shirley and JR never had children per se, their three cats Maggie, Ole Cat, and Sunny were considered their little ones.

She loved family history and searching for ancestors with her niece, Gwendlyn K. (Smith-Young) Brice. She was published as Editor of “Family Ties-The Descendants of James McCloud and Mary Collinsworth, Volume 1, The Sons John and Levi, Sr. McCloud”

She enjoyed playing cards with her neighbors and friends and was always Young at Heart.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 38 years, James Renwick (JR) English, married December 23, 1971, in Union County. JR was the son of Ralph Leroy English and Daisy Turner. Of seven siblings she was preceded in death by Marion Frances (Heath) Sutton, James Eugene Heath, Helen Ruth (Heath) Bales, and Robert Glenn Heath. Also, Nephew David Glen Heath and Great Nephew Johnathan Douglas Heath.

Survivors: Norma J. (Heath) (Rutherford/Smith) Cardwell, Wilma J. (Heath) Harper both of Knoxville. Eighteen nieces and nephews.

Special Thanks to Visiting Angels’, Brenda Copa, who cared for and loved our Shirley and Gary D. Smith for stepping in to manage her welfare after she became ill with Parkinson’s disease.

Receiving of friends will be on August 9, 2024, between 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with service following at Mynatt Funeral Home Powell Chapel.

She will be buried with her loving husband, JR English, at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 1:00pm Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919
