Shirley Denise Douglas

Shirley Denise Douglas (nee Goins), 64, passed away at her home in Powell, Tennessee, on August 31, 2025. Born in Baltimore, MD, on April 21, 1961, Shirley moved to LaFollette when she was around six years old, spending the rest of her life calling East Tennessee home.

Shirley devoted her professional life to the care of others, working as a registered nurse for almost four decades. So much more than what she did, though, was who she was: a loving mother, doting daughter, a generous grandmother, a sister, and a friend.

Shirley loved the Vols, saw Barry Manilow in concert at least half a dozen times, read almost all of Stephen King's novels, and loved to play the piano. More than anything, Shirley (Grandma Tink) loved to spend time with and heap loving attention on her granddaughters. With a smile that would light up a room and a caring nature evident in all she did, Shirley will be remembered for the joy she brought others and will forever be held dear in our hearts.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Robert "Bob" and Donna "DJ" Goins. 

She is survived by her sisters, Shelly (Bill) Claiborne and Kim (Chester) King; her children, Brandon (Melissa) Douglas and Brittany (Kyle) Bright; and her beloved granddaughters, Beatrice “Bea” Douglas and Penelope “Poppy” Bright.

The family will receive friends from 3-5pm on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel.
