Sherrie Alexis Garmon, the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman, left this earth and stepped into her new heavenly home on February 28, 2026. She recently celebrated her 81st birthday and was surrounded by the family she created and loved as she passed from this life into eternity.
Sherrie only knew what it meant to live selflessly. She showered acts of service on others, sharing her quiet craftsmanship to all corners of the world throughout her lifetime. Her legacy lives on in each quilt, warm meal, pair of socks and other handiwork into which she poured her time and talent. All who knew her experienced her generosity — even in her final week, her hairdresser did not leave their time together empty-handed. For more than eight decades, Sherrie exemplified what it meant to be the hands of Christ through her creative and nurturing spirit.
Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Sherrie met Lindsey Garmon at a church service in 1959. The first time he saw her, he leaned over and told a friend, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry.” They married in December 1964 after five years together and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Texas, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee together, faithfully following God’s path as they built a life, home and family centered on respect and grace.
A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Sherrie raised four children and created a safe place where anyone within arm’s reach felt welcome. She never sought recognition for her quiet achievements but served faithfully and without expectation, finding fulfillment in knowing she was warming the hearts of those around her.
A faithful Christ-follower, Sherrie prioritized her faith in every aspect of her life. For countless years, she and Lindsey began each morning sharing coffee while praying, reading and studying the Bible together. Sherrie never wavered in living as a reflection of agape love; it was evident to all who knew her that her soul was anchored in Christ.
“‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.’”
Sherrie is preceded in death by her parents, Norma and Clyde Angell, and her daughter, Betsy Mitchell. She is survived by her husband Lindsey Garmon; children Kendall Garmon, Shelby Garmon, and Ashley (Bryan) Dixon; and granddaughters Kendra Garmon, Ella Dixon, Camryn Garmon and Katy Garmon.
