Sandra Clayton Hammel

Sandra Clayton Hammel, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 29, 2024. She was born to the late William Edward Fassitt and Rilla Edna Clayton on November 9, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan. 

After graduating high school, Sandra went on to earn her bachelor’s degree and worked as an elementary school teacher for many years. She also went on to work as a court recorder before enjoying retirement.

She was a lover of music and a member of the Singing Singers for the last several years. 

Sandra was a devout member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, and a longtime member of the Order of the Daughters of the King. 

She enjoyed reading, baking, bird watching, and spoiling her cats. In her earlier days, Sandra collected Boyds Bears.

Sandra leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Thomas Hammel; two sons, Jonathan Hammel (fiancée Tammy Wood) and Brad Hammel (fiancée Vicki Cheesman); grandchildren, Anna Hammel, Calleigh Cheesman, Katelynn Hammel, and Gregory Hammel; along with her beloved feline babies, Rusty and Pepper.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 3rd, 2024 at 7pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel, located at 2000 Powell Dr. Friends may visit with the family starting at 5pm until the start of the service. Rev. Dorothy Pratt will officiate.
