Roxie Jane Phipps ("Janie) of Rocky Top, Tennessee, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center secondary to complications of metastatic cancer. Born on September 27, 1959, Janie found joy in the simple things including time with her family, traveling, a good cup of coffee, and sitting in the floor playing with her three English bulldogs Tank, Smurf, and Skye. Janie also enjoyed everything paranormal co-founding Haunting Memories Paranormal almost two decades ago. A former EMT and correctional officer in Indiana, Janie spent most of her adult working career in the gas and oil industry. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Imogene (Hamby) Hood, and her brother, Gary Hicks. She is survived by her husband, Norman, and by her sons, James (Kristy) Eastlake and Brian O'Daniel; stepson Adam Phipps; siblings, Jim (Sheryl) Hicks, Gerald Wayne (Joyce) Hicks, and Vickie (Gary) Hood-Wells; multiple grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel, with a service to follow at 7:00pm officiated by Rev. Tim Day. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Rock Springs Cemetery, Gatliff, Kentucky for an 11:00am graveside service. Pallbearers will include her son, James Eastlake, and nephews, Steven Wells, Shaun Wells, and Shane Hobby. The family would like to send special thanks to the Emergency Room and Medical Critical Care staff of UTMC for their dedication, kindness, and compassion during this difficult time.
