July 29, 1965 — July 21, 2023

Knoxville

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Roger Allen Potter(Brother) age 57,  our most beloved son, brother, friend, and inspiration, has passed away. Loved ones surrounded his hospital bedside as he passed on the evening of July 21, 2023. Brother was born in Knoxville on July 29, 1965. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Roger Franklin Potter and Patricia Marie Knight Potter, as well as his sister, Lisa Renee Cruze, and aunt, Janie Burkhart. Brother will be missed every day by his siblings Kimberly Thomas (William) & Michael Potter (Lori ), his caretaker and friend, Drenda Alexander, his Uncle Dave & Aunt Paulette Knight, his cousins, nieces, nephews, and many great friends, as well as his precious puppy Chico. Even though Brother lived his life with special needs (Down Syndrome), it was a full life with many accomplishments. He competed for many years in the Special Olympics and excelled in the swimming competitions. It can certainly be said that he touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with through his infectious grin and loving attitude. He developed and appreciated many relationships experienced during his 20+ years working at Sunshine Industries. Some of his favorite moments were birthday gatherings and Christmas celebrations. A sincere note of thank you to niece Aubrey Thomas, Justin Babb, Betty Roy and Chlotia Bordes for playing such a special role in Brother’s life and these occasions. We know that Brother is with his mother, father, and sister, and he is whole, healthy, and at peace. He is loved here on Earth and in Heaven eternally. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 PM Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Lynnhusrt Cemetery for a 1:00 PM graveside service with Rev. Zach Sexton officiating. In lieu of any flowers, donations can be made to The ARC Knox County Leisure Services (https://sunshinekcarc.org/contact/) or Special Olympics of greater Knoxville (https://support.specialolympics.org/a/tennessee?ms=IDMP_DB&utm_source=donatebtn&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=IDMP).
