Robert Lee Hurd, Jr. (“Bobby”), age 79, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026
Born on January 22, 1947, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Robert grew up with a strong sense of loyalty, humor, and grit — qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. For the past 40 years, he made his home in Powell, Tennessee, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and the simple joys that meant the most to him.
Robert spent many years working with TDOT, and when he wasn’t on the job, he could often be found settled into his favorite spot at home, happily being a couch potato with Longmire or Gunsmoke playing in the background. He had a soft spot for turkey shoots, too.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Hurd, Sr.; his mother, Barbara Worth McAmis Hurd; his brothers, James (Jimmy) Hurd, Richard Hurd, Mark Hurd, and Bruce Morgan Hurd; and his infant son, John Lee Hurd.
Robert leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Linda Gail Braden Hurd, who stood by him through every season of life. He is also survived by his daughter Wendy (Dave); his sons Darrell and Scotty; and his brother David (Verna). His legacy continues through his many grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride. Nothing made him light up faster than seeing them walk through the door.
Robert will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens in Oak Ridge. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 1:30pm with Roy Braden officiating.
Robert will be remembered for his quick wit, his generous heart, and the deep love he carried for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and moments that will be cherished forever.
