Robert (Bob) F. Campbell, age 87, of Clinton, TN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026 with his loving wife Kathy by his side.
Bob was born to Clarence and Mattie Campbell on January 19th, 1939 in Elizabethton, TN.
Bob dedicated over 25 years of his life to the solid waste and environmental services industries. Known for a strong work ethic and steady leadership, he served as a District Manager for BFI (Allied Waste), Western Waste, and 3 privately owned companies. In this role, Bob managed complex fleet operations, facility logistics, and community waste contracts. Colleagues and team members respected him for prioritizing safety on the routes; and maintaining clean, efficient regional operations that served thousands of local residents. Beyond the logistics of routing and safety metrics, Bob was a true people-first leader. He took immense pride in mentoring drivers, mechanics, operations supervisors, and office staff. His knowledge and expertise in the industry afforded him the opportunity to serve as District Manager in several states in the south, including Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Tennessee.
Robert was an avid reader and was especially fond of Western culture including books, Western attire, and artwork. He enjoyed traveling, going for rides through the mountains, and sitting on the back porch with a good book in hand. He also enjoyed cheering for the University of Tennessee Football team and his favorite NASCAR driver. He always had a warm smile, a story to share, and was known for his sense of humor and quick wit.
Bob has been preceded in death by his parents, his sister Shirley, and brother Charles.
Bob is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathryn (Kathy); his children, Robert Jr (Billie), Greg (Pam); Step-Son Aaron; and 3 grandchildren Cassie, Conner, and Zach.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at UT Hospice for their compassion, guidance, and dedicated care during Bob’s final journey.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Johnson City, TN. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his remarkable life.
