Richard Arrowood

Richard Arrowood, age 92, of Powell, TN, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Born on October 10, 1933, in Van Lear, Ky, to Clyde and Gertrude Arrowwood. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served at the Pentagon. Upon completion of service, he attended Morehead State University where he met and married the love of his life, Lela. In February, they celebrated 68 years of marriage. At Morehead, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts, was president of the Morehead Players and was the recipient of the Best Actor award for 1958.

He accepted a high school teaching job in Miamisburg, Ohio where he moved with his wife and raised two children. He spent his whole 26-year career at MHS teaching, directing and also teaching Drivers Education after school. Richard and Lela retired and followed their kids to San Antonia, TX in 1987, then making their final move to the Knoxville, TN area in 1996.

Preceded in death by parents, Clyde and Gertrude Arrowood; brother, James Arrowood; grandson, Hank Wilson.

Survived by wife Lela A. Frits Arrowood; children, Lisa R. Arrowood and Richard Arrowood II (Letty); grandchildren, Kamary Allison (Noah Pilotte) and Adam Arrowood (Katie); great grandchild, Karoline Allison; brother, Bob Arrowood (Janet); numerous family, friends, and former students.

The family will receive friends for visitation in the parlors at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date in Ohio.
