Reverend Kenneth Lyle Sherfick, Jr. age 89 of North Knoxville, died Thursday, November 6, 2025 at his home in Knoxville. He was born March 8, 1936, in Washington, Indiana, to Kenneth L. Sherfick and Edith May McCracken. He was married to Kathleen Ann Sherfick. After high school, he service int eh United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict era. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin College of Indiana and his Master's of Divinity from the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood of the Episcopal Church in 1965. Ken service in parishes in Indiana and Michigan, and after retirement assisted in East Tennessee. He was an eloquent preacher, known for his cogent ten-minute sermons. He and Kathleen enjoyed travel, including pilgrimages, walking 78 miles to Canterbury and completing St. Cuthbert's Way from Melrose Abbey to Lindisfarne. They also spent Holy Week and Easter six times in Canterbury. Survivors include his wife Kathleen; daughter, Jennifer of Bristol, TN and husband, Dr. John Mann; granddaughters, Dr. Erin Schrenker of Bristol and Allison Schrenker of Chattanooga; son, Mark Sherfick (Muncie, IN) and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Linda Kinning (Becca Berstein), Jonathan (Eva), great-grandchildren, Dylan, Charles, Peter, and Laura; step-son, Mark Jennings (Springfield, VA), his wife Kathy, and granddaughter Adaire Bennett (Nathan), great-grandchildren Brooks and October; granddaughter. Madeleine Baxter (Logan), great-grandchildren Finn and Joanie; step-daughter Heather Jennings (Marathon, FL) and her husband Steve Frahlich; and step-son Philip Jennings (Indianapolis, IN). The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm Friday, November 14, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10:30am Saturday, November 15, 2025, at St. James Episcopal Church, Rev. John Mark Wiggers. Following the service, there will be a reception in the parish hall. Following cremation, interment will be in the columbarium at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Coldwater, Michigan, where Ken served as rector from 1984 until 1998.
