Ray Clyde Cooper went to be with Jesus at the age of 89 on October 28, 2026. His wife of 67 years was by his side holding his hand. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and faithful servant of God. Ray was a devoted member of Heiskell United Methodist Church for 56 years.
He graduated from Powell High School in 1955 and was a four year member and Captain of the PHS Basketball team earning All KIL honors for multiple years. He was awarded Salutatorian and Boys’ State and voted Mr. PHS by his classmates.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee where he was a four-year member of the basketball team and the only Powell High School graduate to play basketball on scholarship at the University of Tennessee. He was proud to have been a member of the first Tennessee Basketball team to play in Stokley Athletic Center.
He loved to fish, hunt, bake, work on his farm, serve at church and in his community - but most of all spend time with his family. No one loved Christmas more than him. He will be missed by so many and leaves behind a void that can never be filled.
