Peggy Jones

Peggy Jones, age 90, of Powell, TN passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026. Born in Rutledge, TN in Grainger County, Peggy was a graduate of Halls High School and later retired from the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Peggy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Powell, where she faithfully attended and served for many years as she was able. Her faith, family, and service to others were important parts of her life. Peggy was married for 63 years to her husband Carl E. Jones. She found great joy in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cared for her family and friends, often sharing gifts of her cooking and baking to those around her, and she enjoyed hand-stitching together quilts for her family made with love.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Jones; by her mother and father and by brother and two sisters.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Linda (David) Smith; son, Doug (Lauri) Jones; grandchildren, Lindsay (Noah) Case, Ashley (Justin) Judd, Torrie Jones, Cameron (Brandon) Vannoy and Lexi Jones; great grandchildren, Eden, Deacon and Canon Case, Cooper and Jackson Judd.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Mynatt Funeral Home Powell Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 7:00pm. Pastor Noah Case officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Ft. Sumter Cemetery for an 11:00am interment service.
