Nellie “June” Oakley lost her battle to pancreatic cancer, and went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. She was born on April 29, 1948. June was a lifelong resident of Halls, and a charter member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City. She was a Cum Laude Alumni from the University of Tennessee, which began a generational tradition amongst women in her family, including her daughter and granddaughter. This is also where she met her husband of 55 years. June loved the outdoors, and could always find her working in her flower beds, going on nature walks, burning brush, and camping on the beach. Even though she never learned how to swim, she loved going to the ocean.
June is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Chapman and Trula Mae Karnes Chapman; sister, Willie Joyce Chapman; and grandson, Devin Benjamin Oakley.
She is survived by, her husband, Michael NMN Oakley; daughter, Kimberly (David) Cardwell; son, Michael H. (Cindy) Oakley; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Marcus), Alexis, and Mikey; great grandchildren, Gracee Layne, Aleigha, Matthew, Madilyn, and Aspen; sister, Linda (David) Davis; brother, Marvin (Patty) Chapman; also leaving behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Sacred Ground Hospice House for the spiritual and loving care and the special attention of loving nurses of Smoky Mountain Home Health. A Call at Convenience will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, family and friends will meet at 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM graveside service at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Hwy. Pastor Paul Baird to officiate.
