Balltrip, Mildred Madgeline (Madge) – age 91, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving children. She was a very loving mother, and we will miss her dearly. Madge was the owner and namesake of Madge’s Grill, located at the intersection of University and Western Avenues in the early 1960s, where they could “seat 1000 people, 28 at a time.” She was a bold follower ofChrist, and a longtime member of New Fellowship Baptist Church. Madge was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was predeceased by her parents, Elijah and Alice Davis; her devoted husband, Herschell Balltrip; her loving daughter-in-law, Pamela Balltrip, and nine siblings, among whom she was the youngest. Survived by daughters, Debbie Coffey, Donna Balltrip, Terrie Peck, Sherry Hodges; son, Gary Balltrip, all of Knoxville; stepson, Steve Balltrip (Debbie), of Spartanburg, SC; eleven grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren; beloved family friend, Chris Harper; and several devoted nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Highland Memorial Cemetery (Sutherland Avenue) for an 11:00 AM graveside service, Rev. Wayne Lay officiating.
