Mildred “Dit” DeMarcus

“Well Done, My Child.” Mildred “Dit” DeMarcus went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, and raised in Knoxville, Mildred was a graduate of Rule High School. She worked as a cashier at Kroger for over 30 years and was a faithful member of Emory Valley Baptist Church.

Mildred loved reading, studying the Bible, gardening, journaling, birdwatching, and using her imagination. She had a special knack for decorating and a creative spirit that shone through in all she did. Her positivity, enthusiasm, and laughter were contagious. Above all else, her greatest joy and most cherished blessing was her family. Known by many names, including Dit, Millie, Mama, and Mammaw, she held a special place in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Mildred had a way of making everyone feel like a friend. She welcomed people with warmth and kindness, and whenever friends or family were around, she made sure everyone was cared for and had what they needed. Taking care of others came naturally to her, and she made each person feel special, loved, and at home.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronnie DeMarcus; her son, William “Craig” DeMarcus; her parents, Willie and Elsie Jones; her sister, Dorothy Marie “Ree” Lindsey; and her best friend, Brenda Ammons.

She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including her sisters, Marietta “Eller” Walton and Margaret “Boogidy” Bowser and her husband, Walter; her daughters, Rhonda Grivjack and her husband, Frank, and Sandra Beecham and her husband, Chris; and her son, Ronald “Chip” DeMarcus and his wife, Susan.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Travis and Courtney Foster; Stefani Esmark and her husband, Aaron; Rachel Phifer; Corey Beecham and his wife, Holly; and Cameron and Brantley DeMarcus. Her great-grandchildren include Hailee McCrary and her husband, Zack; Skyler Martin; Jacob and Glenn Whitsell; Dakota Sharpe; and Alena and Zachary Esmark. She was also blessed with great-great-grandchildren Hudson, Henley, and Harper McCrary.

Mildred will be remembered for her creativity, her love for the Lord, and, most of all, the love she gave so freely to her friends and family. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will live on for generations to come.

The family extends many thanks to the doctors and nurses of Fort Sanders Regional ICU and 8N, as well as to Dr. Waller and his nurses and staff, for their care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with friends and family.
