Michael Patrick Schlitter, born March 14, 1970, passed on to his new life on August 18. 2025. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Frederick Schlitter and Paulette Morissette Schlitter. He is survived by his brother, Eric Daniel Schlitter, his sister-in-law, Izabela and nephew Mason. Michael was born in Oak Park, IL. Michael moved to Knoxville in 2018. He heard about Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) and after being there for only a few days, joined their Berea program. Upon graduation from the program, he eventually came to work at KARM in the kitchen. This is where Michael worked his way up until he said he wasn’t feeling well on Monday, July 28th and left work and drove himself to the hospital. His lungs were battling something that would not respond to any treatments the caring staff and doctors at Ft Sanders tried. Michael enjoyed Chicago sports teams (especially the Cubs), music, cars, and food! But this only some of what he liked to talk about with most people, what he chose for entertainment. There was a deeper side to Michael. One that you saw when you got closer to him, when you spent extended time with him, like working for hours in the kitchen preparing to feed hundreds of people for every meal every day. From his life experiences, he understood, maybe better than most, the trauma a lot of folks carry around within themselves. His love for the Lord and for others showed in his faithfulness and in the caring way he served others. His dry humor along with his heart and service to those often overlooked will be missed. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held Thursday, August 28th, at 1:30 in the KARM Sanctuary at 2909 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917. If you have such garb, please wear a jersey from your favorite team (unless it’s the Mets!) Mynatt Funeral Home, 2829 Rennoc Rd, Knoxville, TN is caring for Michael’s body.
