Michael Leon Bailey

Bailey, Michael Leon - 67 of Corryton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. A 1976 graduate of Gibbs High School, Michael earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Tennessee in 1980 and continued his education at the University of Alabama, Huntsville receiving his Masters of Engineering. Michael enjoyed his career at Honeywell in Clearwater, FL working on main engine controls for the NASA Space Shuttle Program before moving on to a storied career at Boeing working on the Space Shuttle Constellation before the program was canceled.

Michael was a son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and he was dearly loved. We miss him, but we know that, as he placed his faith in Jesus Christ, our family will be reunited soon.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Verlin Bailey and sister-in-law, Angela Crane Bailey. Left to remember him are his daughter Erin (Sawyer) Shoates and granddaughter Vivian Grace of Nashville, TN; mother Elizabeth Bailey and sister Karen (Jeff) Watkins of Holly Springs, NC; brother Mark (Robin) Bailey of Hazel Green, AL; brother Kevin Bailey of Knoxville; brother Eric (Sharon) Bailey of Safety Harbor, FL; nephews and nieces, Christopher (Emily) Watkins, Justin (Christine) Watkins, Rachel (Matt) Cain, Sabrina Bailey, and Devyn Bailey; grand nephews and nieces, Ella, Haley, Ethan, Norah, Zoe, Margot Watkins; Scarlett and Verlin Cain.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Select Specialty Hospital, North in Powell for their kindness and the exceptional care shown to Michael during the many months he was in their facility.

A private service is planned for a later date.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
