Mary Ann Scarbrough, age 76, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. She left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a spirit that won’t soon be forgotten. A woman who was as beautiful as she was witty, Mary Ann was known for her "sassy" personality and a charm that made everyone she met fall instantly in love with her.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Alice Ruth and William Abraham Shipley. Mary Ann was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wayne Scarbrough, with whom she is now reunited, as well as her sister, Glenda England, and her brother, Donald Shipley.
A devoted and fiercely loving mother, she is survived by her daughters, Mary White and Sonya Nieto, and sons-in-law Allen White and Toni Nieto. Mary Ann’s heart was especially full for the granddaughter she raised as her own, Cheyann Scarbrough. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, Jacob White, Abigail White, Winter Lane, Connor Lane, David Nieto, and Neyland Nieto, as well as her great-grandchildren, Toni White and Asher Schoff. Mary Ann was a cherished sister to Roscoe Shipley, Carolyn Ballard, Dorothy Mitchell, and Jerry Shipley. She was also a dear sister-in-law to Frank Mitchell, Cassie Shipley, Debra Shipley, Gary England, Sharon Shipley, Steve Ballard, and Tammy Shipley.
She will be remembered as a light in the lives of her family—a woman who spoke her mind, cared deeply for her own, and brought a unique spark to every room she entered.
