Marvin Thomas Lane

December 12, 1936 — May 21, 2025

Marvin Thomas Lane, age 88, of Knoxville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2025, just 48 hours after the love of his life, Betty Lane. They were married for 67 years. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City and a former student at Fulton High School.

Marvin retired from the Knoxville Academy of Medicine and also worked for many years at Hale Brothers in Morristown, as well as Industrial Paper and Packaging and Norris Food Stores in Knoxville.

Born on December 12, 1936, to Rev. Cecil Lane and Nettie Wheeler, both of Knoxville, Marvin began working at a young age in the produce markets of downtown Knoxville. He later transitioned into sales, calling on many of Knoxville’s finest restaurants.

One of Marvin’s greatest loves was country music. Knoxville, a city with deep roots in the early days of country music, was the perfect backdrop for his talent. He performed on the stages of The Midday Merry-Go-Round during the week and the East Tennessee Valley Barn Dance on weekends. After retirement, he continued to share his music at Ciderville on Friday nights.

In the late 1950’s while working at Norris Food Market in Halls, Marvin met his future wife, Betty Mouron. They married and lived in the heart of Fountain City for over five decades. Together, they were faithful members of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, where they served for many years as directors of the 8th Grade Sunday School Department.

Marvin had a deep and abiding love for his family, cherishing every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved camping, cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers with their close-knit group of friends—affectionately known as the “Great 8 Couples”—and participating in the Knox County 10-4 Club, as well as the National Campers and Hiker’s Association-Big Smoky Club.

He is survived by his children: Jeffrey (Janice) Lane of Knoxville and Denise Deapen of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren: Jennifer (Jeff) Ingraham of Mt. Juliet, Jessica (Jack) Jones of Knoxville, Alexandria (Jason) Macias, Erica (Mike) Anderson, Christine (Brandon) Jarrett, and Angalene (Tank) Jackson, all of Texas; eleven great-grandchildren; and beloved niece, Cindy Tipton. The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care provided by Holston Rehab Center and UT Hospice Services.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lane, his parents, his sister Helen Norris, and his son-in-law Dennis Deapen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marvin’s memory to Pat Summitt Clinic 1932 Alcoa Hwy, Building C Suite 150, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920.

The family will receive friends on June 1, at 2- 4pm at Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, 5364 North Broadway, Knoxville, Tn. Funeral will follow at 4:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on June 2, at 11:00am at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
