Martha Mynatt Townsend

Martha Mynatt Townsend, age 82, of Norwood, TN, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Martha retired from Bell South/AT&T as a long-distance operator after 26 years. She attended Black Oak Heights Baptist Church. Martha loved the University of Tennessee and was a passionate UT sports fan. She loved her family and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Martha loved singing and sang like an angel. She was an avid amateur photographer. Martha never met a stranger and will be missed tremendously.

Preceded in death by her parents, Claude “Speedy” and Frances Moore Mynatt; husband, Bill Townsend; sister, Janice Smart; brother, Jimmy Mynatt.

Survived by her son, Lee Townsend (Sheri Beth), Laura Jones (Joe) and Libby Miller (Marco); sister, Mary Chadwick; grandchildren, Brigitte (Nick), Callie (Douglas), Haden (Madison), Hunter (Nikki), Karsten (Trent), Easton, Joey, Evan and Erik; great grandchildren, Skylar, Emery, Hallie, Henley, Kevin, Bella and baby girl Townsend, due in October; several nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and numerous lifelong friends.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Ceneter and The Courtyards Senior Living for their love and care.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00pm, Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Mynatt Funeral Home Powell Chapel with a service following at 7:00pm.  Pastor Todd Stinnett officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 11:00am interment service.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
