Marie Clevenger Carpenter

Marie Clevenger Carpenter passed away peacefully at her home, fittingly on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the age of 91.  Marie was born to J. W. and Estelle (Arnwine) Clevenger on December 12, 1931, the second of six children.  She was raised on the family dairy farm and graduated from Gibbs High School enjoying cheerleading during her high school years.  Her classmates voted her "cutest senior girl".   Marie married the love of her life, Glenn (Rusty) Carpenter, whom she shared a life with for 68 years until his passing in 2019.  She was a wonderful mom to her three sons, Rick, Shane, and Neal and a proud grandmother to Morgan, Caroline, Leanne, Tracie, and Missy and an extra proud great-grandmother to Sawyer, Laighla, Paxton, Cooper, Katie, and Emmy.  She adored her church family at Clapps Chapel, her RV friends around the country, and her music pals.  As many can attest, she was quite the dancer in her later years.  She was a devoted homemaker and a marvelous cook with many of her special recipes to be enjoyed for years to come.  An extra special thank you to her amazing caregivers who truly became family over the last few years.  Sharlene, Tammy, Margo, Renee, Carol, and Samantha loved and cared for her as if she were their own.  Marie's oldest son, Rick, also devoted the last 5 months providing above and beyond care for her.  Preceded in death by parents J.W. and Estelle Clevenger; husband Rusty; extra special mother-in-law Bonnie Neal Carpenter; brothers, Eugene, James and Ronnie Clevenger; sister Vivian Irwin; nephews Jack and Tim Irwin; and niece Suzanne Irwin.  She is survived by sons Rick, Shane (Carla), Neal (Kevin), and sister Shirley Merritt as well as several nieces, nephews, many special friends and her adopted family, Lyle and Pat Farquhar.  The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2023 at Clapps Chapel Church 7420 Clapps Chapel Road Corryton, TN 37721 followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service Dr. Chris Stanfield and Rev. David Smith officiating.  Interment to follow in church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clapps Chapel Church or to Clapps Chapel Cemetery Fund  7420 Clapps Chapel Road Corryton, TN 37721.  Condolences may be left at www.mynattfh.com
