Leola Fortner Powell

Leola Fortner Powell, age 88, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on February 23, 2026. She attended Union Baptist Church of Halls since 1967. Leola loved being a mom and grandma. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and watching Lady Vols basketball. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jobie and Macie Fortner, and her siblings: Leta Torbush, Delores Welch, and Arthur Fortner. 

She is survived by her husband, George Powell; children, Scott Powell (Cassie) and Shawn Powell; a brother, Walter Fortner (Judy); grandchildren: Dylan Powell, Courtney Powell, Kyla Powell, Madison Powell, and Wheeler Powell; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm officiated by Rev. Gary Vandergriff. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood Cemetery at 10:45 am on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for an 11:00 am graveside service. 

Pallbearers will be Ivan Zamarron, Mike Welch, Jeff Welch, Mike Moore, Tyler Moore, and Dylan Powell.
