Leah Smelcer Whitaker

October 23, 1939 — November 22, 2024

Knoxville

Leah Smelcer Whitaker's gentle spirit entered heaven on Friday, November 22, 2024. She was deeply cherished by many and brought great joy to life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth Smelcer, and her husband, E.A. (Noonie) Whitaker.

Leah was a devoted mother to her daughter, Lori Witt, and her son, Brad Whitaker. She was a loving grandmother to Katie (Justin) Hayse, Kelsea (Matthew) Johnson, and Ashley Whitaker, as well as the joy of her life, a great-grandmother to Harper and Sutton Hayse. She is also survived by her sister, Earlene Lambdin; her niece, Dawn (Perry) Harbin; and her nephew, David (Sheryl) Lambdin. Leah held a special place in her heart for Rusty Egan and Rhonda Vineyard.

Her lifelong friend, Margaret Wenzler, provided unwavering support. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Johnny and Susie Schneider, the neighbors who offered assistance over the years, and her compassionate caretaker, Amy Miller. They were also so appreciative of the Amedisys home health workers for their care. Leah requested no services, but in lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Fountain City Church Building Fund, 2801 Holbert Road, Knoxville, TN 37918.
