Kegan James Hughes, age 16, of Fountain City, Tennessee, won the Great Life Race on Monday, November 10, 2025, as he ran into the arms of Jesus with a new heart and a new body. He passed while being treated for heart failure at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, with his mom and dad faithfully by his side.Kegan attended Legacy Church Knoxville and was a student at Central High School, where he was surrounded by countless friends—too many to name—who were drawn to his kindhearted, gentle spirit, quick wit, and unforgettable smile. He loved God, his family, and his friends with a sincerity far beyond his years. Kegan enjoyed playing games of all kinds and was always happiest when spending time with family, friends, and his dog, Judge. He loved watching and playing sports, especially cheering for the UT Vols and the New York Yankees. He had a huge heart, a loving soul, and a joyful personality that made every room brighter. He was, and will always be, a deeply loved son.Kegan is survived by his mother, Kristi Egan Hughes, and his father, James (Jim) Hughes; his great-aunt Barbara Bailes; his uncles Jeff Egan (Donna), Mike Egan (Kim), and Rusty Egan (Julia); and his cousins Hannah & Matt Patton, Greylan Egan, Noah Egan (Summer), Gavin Egan (Jordan & Callum), and Paul (PJ) Barbosa (Allison, Amya, Mason & Jackson). He is also survived by his special aunt Missy Chadwell (Abby Grace); Chase & Charley; Levi; and many loving neighbors and friends including McKenzie & Chris, Jackson, Zade, Josiah, Bryan, Maddox, Hayden, Christian, and Noah—along with countless more family members and friends who loved him dearly.He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Jerrie Rogers Egan (MeeMee), Donald Egan (Papa), and Susan & Jamie Barbosa; his uncle Paul Barbosa; and his great-aunt Dorothy Jones (Nana) and Mike Bailes.Kegan’s life, though far too short, was filled with love, faith, joy, and unforgettable moments. His sense of humor was beyond words, and his laughter, kindness, and bright spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.
