June 12th 1972 - March 30th 2024
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Karol Allred, also known as "Ozhaawashko-Bineshiinh" (Bluebird), a cherished member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, who peacefully passed away on March 30th, 2024, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Karol was preceded in death by her beloved significant other, Charles Sweeney, her mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Nickence, and her father, Shirlie Allred. Their memories will forever remain intertwined with hers, a testament to the love and bond they shared.
Karol's spirit lives on through her loving daughter, Bethany Irwin, and her precious grandchildren, Kayleigh Ann Shipley, Madison Ray Shipley, and Jakob Abel Shipley, who will carry her legacy forward with pride and love. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Kerri Allred, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom were touched by her love.
Karol's life was full of strength, compassion, and resilience. Her laughter echoed through the lives of those she touched, and her heart was a guiding light in times of darkness. As her family and community gather to honor her memory, they find comfort in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to watch over them, like the bluebird she was.
Details regarding arrangements to celebrate Karol's life will be shared in the days ahead, as her loved ones come together to pay tribute to a remarkable woman who left an enduring mark on the hearts of all who knew her. May her memory be a blessing, and may her spirit soar free.
