Karen Elaine Calhoun

October 11, 1956 — June 6, 2026

Knoxville

Karen Martin Calhoun passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 6, 2026. She was 69 years young. Born and raised in Knoxville, Karen attended Central High School and graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Special Education. She began her teaching career in Houston, Texas, where she not only learned to two-step, but she also met and married the love of her life. With a new family in tow, Karen returned to Knoxville a few years later, settling in the Halls community. She then continued her teaching career in the Knox County Schools district until retirement.

Karen was generous, compassionate and kind. She loved her family, animals, helping others, volunteering at CHS Bobcat sporting events, and cheering for the Vols on football Saturdays. And she was crazy about Elvis. Karen will be deeply missed by her husband of 42 years, Dwayne Calhoun; son, Aaron (Francesca) Calhoun; daughter, Rachael Calhoun (Joe) Sanford; four grandchildren; and sister, Kathy Martin Haymes.

A private burial service will be held at a later date. For friends wishing to remember Karen, please consider a Tribute Gift in her name to Special Olympics.
