Julian Daniel "Dan" Rouse, Jr.

September 20, 1953 — August 2, 2025

Maynardville, TN 37807

It is with profound love and sorrow that the family of Dan Rouse announces his passing on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the age of 71, embraced in the loving arms of his wife, Tammy, at their home.

Dan was born on September 20, 1953, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the beloved son of the late Julian “Dan” (J.D.) Rouse and Doris Rouse. A proud member of one of East Tennessee’s founding families, Dan held his heritage close to his heart. He also cherished his Scottish ancestry, proudly claiming kinship to General McNabb.

Dan’s life was an adventure, and he loved to share his stories that often felt larger than life. A man of exceptional skill and service, he was a Master Electrician, a businessman and former owner of Daniels Shoe Store, and he proudly served his community and state as a Combat Medic (68W) in the Tennessee State Guard and as an EMT‑Advanced for AMR / Rural Metro. He also volunteered with Remote Area Medical (RAM), bringing care to those in need.

Beyond his professional and volunteer work, Dan was an avid outdoorsman and climber, happiest exploring the mountains and wild spaces of Tennessee. He lived with quiet courage, a spirit of adventure, and an unwavering love for the people and places he called home. Of all his many achievements, Dan considered his greatest to be his marriage to his beloved wife, Tammy, the love of his life.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Tammy Rouse, and his sister, Cherryl Wolfe (Steve). He was a proud uncle to his nephews, Stephen Wolfe (Mandi) and Phillip Wolfe (Rebekah), and niece, Hope Gross (Caleb), along with their children and families, who will carry his love and stories forward. He is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends. Though he had no children of his own, he was a mentor, protector, and source of laughter to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mynatt Funeral Home-Halls Chapel, 4131 East Emory Road, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, starting at 4:00pm. In honor of his Scottish roots, Scottish bagpiper Mark Warren will perform a tribute.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union County Humane Society, a cause close to Dan’s heart.

Dan Rouse’s life was one of service, heritage, love, and adventure. His warmth, courage, and spirited storytelling will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
