Judy Staggs, age 82, of Knoxville, entered into eternity with her Savior on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
Judy was born and raised near Jackson, TN where she met and married the love of her life Bill. The two of them built a family together there and then moved to Knoxville in 1976. Her family was everything, and everything she did was to honor them. She made it her mission to always comfort and encourage others even with her own struggles. Judy was an active member of Sharon Baptist Church where she faithfully taught in the preschool department for more than 30 years.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Myrah “Bill” Staggs; a daughter, Myrah Marie Staggs; grandson, Seth “Isaiah” Claiborne; parents, Richard Thomas Barnes, Sr & Annie Louise Mealer Barnes; three siblings, William “Ray” Barnes, Carolyn Weatherington & Donna Barnes.
She is survived by her son, Billy (Charlotte) Staggs; daughter, Judy “Faye” Lutz; grandchildren, Kayla (Nick) Cancemi, Jonathan Staggs, William “Christian” Powell, James “Noah” Claiborne, Myrah “Gracie” Nelson, & Sapphire Lutz; & adored great-grandchildren; as well as three siblings, Gladys Smallwood, Richard Thomas Barnes & Elizabeth Stanfill.
The family will receive friends at Mynatt Funeral Home-Powell Chapel on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 5:00pm-7:00pm with a service to follow officiated by Rev. Mark McCoig. The family will also receive friends in Jackson, TN at the George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, 1544 S. Highland Avenue Jackson, TN 38301, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 11:00am-12:30pm with a graveside service to follow where she will be laid to rest at the Maple Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Medon, TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sharon Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, 7916 Pedigo Road, Powell, TN 37849.
