Joyce Blazer

September 6, 1932 — December 10, 2022

Joyce (Joy) Blazer, age 90, passed away early Saturday, December 10, 2022. Although Joy struggled after suffering a stroke, she was still a “joy” to be around. She truly embodied her name – Joy. She loved a good joke and her smile and laughter could light up a room. Joy was born on September 6, 1932, to Linnus Willard Fox and Mossie Virginia Carmon Fox, and had four siblings – Marvin Fox, Cecil Fox, and Alma Jean Dockins of Knoxville, TN; and Bill Fox of Henderson, TX. She graduated from Rule High School and was elected Miss Rule High. After graduation, she worked for Sears Roebuck, and Co. in the Accounting Department where she quickly rose through the ranks to be the Accounting Supervisor. Leaving Sears after 35 years, she worked in the Finance Department for Knox County. After “officially” retiring, she volunteered to be a greeter at Brickey Elementary School and she also volunteered at the John T. O’Conner Senior Citizen Center where she was awarded the John J. Duncan, Sr. Award in 2014 for Senior Advocacy which honors people in the community who uphold, support and advocate for seniors and the programs that assist older adults. Joy was a member of the Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Joy loved her family dearly, her church, going to the beach, traveling with her “sweetie”, the U.S.A and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers. You would often see her wearing red, white and blue on patriotic holidays or wearing orange and white on game days. You could find her in the stands supporting her children and grandsons various activities and events. She thoroughly loved going and supporting her grandsons whether it be driving to North Carolina to watch Tripp play basketball or going to football games to watch her grandson Justin march with the University of Tennessee Pride of Southland Band. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings and her “sweetie” –Frank Limpus, Sr. Joy is survived by her son, John Blazer, Jr. (Kimberly), Salisbury, NC; daughters – Jody Blazer, Savannah, GA; and Julia Landreth, Knoxville, TN; grandsons John Blazer, III (Tripp) (Jenn), Charlotte, NC; and Justin Landreth, Knoxville, TN and great grandson Cam, Charlotte, NC; and several nieces and nephews. The family will have a private burial ceremony. A Celebration of Joy’s Life is planned for Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in the Family Life Center at the Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 7225 Old Clinton Pike, Knoxville, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Condolences can be left for the family at www.mynattfh.com
