John Edward Turner, age 84, of Knoxville, Tennessee left us to be with Jesus on January 9, 2025. John Turner was born on April 16, 1940, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Charles and Thelma Turner, one of ten children. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Berlin Crisis, stationed in Germany. After working his way up in the company, John retired as President and General Manager of Steel Plate Fabricators. Upon retirement, he went to work for J.B.M. and continued using his skills in metal fabrication as an estimator. John was a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. He enjoyed UT sports, playing the guitar, and especially spending time with his family. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Dukes Turner; his daughters, Kimberly Shipley (Patrick) and Kristi Turner; and his grandchildren, Kelsie Shipley, Kaylin McGee, Kevin Walker, and Kaleb Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Topaz” and Thelma Turner, and his siblings, Jim Turner, Louis Swaggerty, Ray Turner, Bobbie Kidd, Mary Lane, Linda Neff, Don Turner, Paul Turner, and Jack Turner. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025 with a service following at 7:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home in Fountain City, Rev. Mark Kidd officiating. Burial services will be held on January 21, 2025 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy) at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Sacred Ground Hospice House (1120 Dry Gap Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37918) in John’s memory. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s ICU and Sacred Ground Hospice House for their compassionate care and support.
