John Edward Hutchens

John Edward Hutchens, age 85, of Knoxville, passed away on October 18,2025.

John was a former member and Sunday school teacher of North Knoxville Baptist Church for 25 years and a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church. His faith and dedication to his community were central parts of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father; Gilford Ed Hutchens and mother; Willa Dean Hutchens, brother; Charles Hutchens, and sister-in-law; Willeen Hutchens.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Vernice Hutchens; children, Randy Hutchens, Lorri Clark (Tom), Sammy Captain, Greg Captain (Candi), Andy Captain (Terri), and siblings; Ronnie Hutchens and Patsy Easterday (Dennis).

He was a proud grandfather to D.J. McMurry, Isaiah (Ansley) Captain, Drew Captain, Bethani Clark, Tyler Captain (Devyn), Baylee Norwood (Stephen), Alivia Captain, Hanna Captain; and great-grandfather to Landray Captain and Josie Captain.

Special acknowledgements are extended to Dr. Ross Kerns, Dr. John Ternay, Amedysis Hospice, and special friends; Bill and Shirley Millsaps, Denise and Jeff Jinnett for their love and support.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 5:00pm-7:00pm with a funeral service to follow 7:00pm at Clear Springs Baptist Church. Services Officiated by Reverend Rob Maddox and Reverend Ronnie Hutchens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clear Springs Baptist Church Music ministry.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Rob Maddox.
