John Glenn Bruhin

December 9, 1964 — March 31, 2022

John Bruhin was born on December 9, 1964 to John Dennis Bruhin and Shirley Stinnett Bruhin. He grew up with humble beginnings and had one dream, to play football at the University of Tennessee. He began his journey at Powell High School playing and lettering all 4 years from 1980-1983. In high school, he won many awards. Sophomore of the year, All KIL, All Region, All District, All State, and All South. Bruhin began to make a name for himself as a top FB/DE and one of the top 100 prospects in the country. Several schools came knocking at his door, but it didn’t matter, his heart and soul belonged to the University of Tennessee. Head Coach Johnny Majors and Offensive Line Coach Phil Fulmer. Over the next 5 years (1983-1987) Fulmer began to mold John into one of the best Right Guard’s UT had ever seen. During his college career, John was a part of the famous 1985 Sugar Bowl team. He was selected and played in the 1987 Senior Bowl and the East West Shrine Bowl. John then began to set his sights on playing in the NFL. During the combine he ran a 4.7 40 which set him apart from other guards. In 1988 he was drafted by Tampa Bay in the 4th round 86th pick overall. He went on to play for Tampa Bay from 1988-1991. In 1992 he played for the Philadelphia Eagles, and in 1993 he played for the New York Jets where an injury forced him to retire his football career. After football, John went on to raise a family, hunt grouse, and give back to his community. He spent time as a Volunteer Coach at Central High School and Powell High School coaching with Joel Helton and Clark Duncan. He also worked at Pittsburgh Coatings for 10 years. He was a former member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church and a member of Grace Baptist Church. John loved everyone but he loved the Lord most of all. He clung to the verse John 3:16 and would share God’s love with others often. He was an encourager who saw the very best in everyone he came in contact with. He always wanted to make sure everyone knew just how much God loved them. On Thursday, March 31, 2022 John finally met his Lord face to face. What a joyous celebration it was. He was preceded in death by his father, John Dennis Bruhin, Son, Zane Bruhin, step mother. Sylvia Bruhin, Step father, Jack Grant and step brother, Kevin Grant.
