July 18, 1999 — July 18, 2023

Knoxville

John Houston Dykes, age 24 of Knoxville, was suddenly called home on July 18, 2023 after a hard fought crippling 2 ½ year battle with Long COVID.  He was a beloved son to Jensi and Roger Dykes and brother to Caroline Dykes.  John Houston was a gifted athlete who pursued field sports including baseball, travel soccer and ultimately rugby while in college. He was also heavily involved in weight training and physical conditioning for his entire young adult life. He played competitive travel soccer throughout his middle and high school years and ultimately rugby for the University of Tennessee Knoxville.  He attended Brickey McCloud Elementary, Halls High School and the University of Tennessee Knoxville pursuing studies in Business Analytics and Statistics.  He worked part time while attending school for the University of Tennessee as a building manager for the T-Recs Sports Facility.  John Houston always had a smile and a quick wit about him. He was keen to form lifetime friendships and was loved by many. He was a good and loyal friend who loved back as well.  He was struck down in the prime of his life and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Even though he may no longer walk among us he will never be forgotten.  Preceded in death by his grandparents Don and Janet Greever of Murfreesboro, TN. He is survived by his parents, Roger and Jensi Dykes along with his sister Caroline Dykes of Knoxville, TN. Uncle and Aunt, Tom and Christie Greever and cousin Braxton, of Murfreesboro, TN. Darlene and Donna Fielden, Bunny Dykes along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2023 at Mynatt Halls Chapel and leave in procession for a 3:00 p.m. graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery, Rev.
