Johanna Minoura Purganan

Johanna Minoura Purganan, age 24, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Kingston, New York, died suddenly and without warning Saturday evening, October 18, 2025.

“Jojo” was a loving mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She was the embodiment of hard work, ambition and compassion. She was raised within the Kingston-Hudson Valley Family Church where she was surrounded by love, faith and a strong sense of community. Jojo was the type of person that once you met her, you became family in her eyes. Her heart was open to all. She was musically gifted, learning the violin and clarinet during high school, and often stepped into the leadership role with quiet confidence. She also excelled in Tong II Moo Do martial arts. She wanted to become an attorney since she was a child, driven by the deep sense of justice and service to others. In time, Jojo met Dalton Cox, the love of her life. Together, they were blessed with a son, Aaron Dean Cox, who became the center of her world. She took immense joy and pride in motherhood and her family.

Johanna was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hiruyasu and Rei Minoura, and Servillano and Derlina Purganan. She is survived by her beloved fiancé, Dalton Cox; son, Aaron Dean Cox; parents, Isagani and Ikuko Minoura Purganan; brother, Junshin Purganan; and numerous family and friends who will miss her dearly.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, with funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM, with Reverend Sam Mitchell, officiating. The family will also have an additional funeral service dedicated to her faith within the Kingston-Hudson Valley Family Church at 10:00 AM Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. Everyone is welcome. Family and friends will meet by 12:00 PM Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, and proceed to Greenwood Cemetery for a 1:00 PM graveside service.
