Born at home in the Halls Community, January 8,1941, to Joe and Iona Barnes Webb. Member of Old Pleasant Gap Baptist Church. Graduated Halls High School class of 1959 and attended Knoxville Business College. Retired from Norfolk Southern Railway with 36 years of service. Proudly served in the United States Army as a Radio Teletype Specialist. He was a former member of the Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad, where in 1977, he was named Tennessee Rescue Squad Man of the Year. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He attended nearly 400 Nascar and dirt track races from Wisconsin to Florida. He was a special man that many close to him described as a guardian angel. He provided shelter, security, guidance, love, and direction for so many individuals. We will always “remember when.”
Preceded in death by parents, brothers Glen and Herbert, sister Bonnie Robertson, all three of Halls, and special friend Amanda Grogan. Survived by brother Clyde (Roberta) of Chicago. Very special extended family, Barbie and Monty Fairchild, Laramie Payne, Corey and Claire Payne, and two little darlings, Kylee Lynn Payne and Gia Clay Payne, whom he was humbled and honored to have shared his middle name with, all of Knoxville.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Date and Times will be posted when finalized.
“Lord, how great thou art that we should be blessed to have lived life with such a wonderful man as this.”
