Jeff Maxwell passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, in his sleep, with the love of family in his heart and the faith that guided his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and faithful servant of God. His passion for music and sports blessed many people in Knoxville. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Polly Maxwell; brother, Jimmy Maxwell; and sister, Paulette Lay. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Claudia Countiss Maxwell; sons, Daniel (Angel) Maxwell and Alex (Tara) Maxwell; granddaughter, Elienna Maxwell; grandsons, Bentley, Parker, Kaiden, and Carter Maxwell; brothers-in-law, Wayne Lay, Robby (Wendy) Countiss, and Darryl (Jeannie Smith) Countiss; sister-in-law, Susan (Jeff) Harbin; as well as 9 nieces, 1 nephew, 11 great-nieces, 5 great-nephews, and many friends who will cherish the memories they shared with him in church, hobbies, and sporting events. Of all the blessings in Jeff's life, none brought him greater joy than his family. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, cheering them on in every stage of life. Whether it was sitting in the stands at a baseball or basketball game, watching a soccer match, attending a bowling match, or marveling at an ice-skating performance, Jeff was always there. He celebrated every victory, offered “tough love” through every challenge, and found immense pride in simply watching the people he loved pursue their passions. His grandchildren knew they had one of their biggest fans in Papaw, and his presence at their activities was a gift they will carry with them forever. He also gained the love and friendship of many fellow spectators at the sporting events that he cherished so deeply. Jeff's faith was the foundation of his life. He loved his church and the fellowship, purpose, and community it provided. He lived his beliefs not only through worship, but through his service and genuine care for others. His scripture knowledge, dedication to leading the church choir for many years, and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are grateful for the years we were blessed to have him with us. We take comfort in knowing that he is home in heaven with the loved ones who preceded him, rejoicing in the streets of gold. Jeff will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts. The family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2026 at New Fellowship Baptist Church 4624 Nora Road, Knoxville, TN 37918 followed by a 6:00 p.m. funeral service, Rev. Wayne Lay officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2026 at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. Condolences may be expressed at www.mynattfh.com.
