Jay Darrell Story

Jay Darrell Story, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. Jay was born May 11, 1937 in Knoxville, TN to Robert Leo Story and Naomi Ellen Gilliam Story. He retired from ORNL after 38 years. 

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Naomi Story; brother, Mike Story. 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian Trotter Story; son, Jim Story (Kelly) of Powell; daughter, Ann Story Hastings (Anthony) of Savannah, TN; sister, Ann Story Williams (AL) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Abby, Emily and Ryan Story, Samuel and Lilly Ann Hastings. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Friday, March 13, 2026, at Mynatt Funeral Home Powell Chapel. Family and friends will gather at 10:45am, Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Bells Campground Cemetery for an 11:00am graveside service. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice (Patty, Brain and Wendy) for their support and loving care.
