James Alfred Tallent

February 21, 1945 — March 17, 2026

Knoxville

James Alfred Tallent, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

He was born on February 21, 1945, in Portsmouth, Virginia to Beatrice Davis Tallent and Carl Houston Tallent, both of whom preceded him in death.

Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. A true American hero, he endured great sacrifice as a Prisoner of War and was awarded three Purple Hearts for his bravery and resilience. He carried immense pride in his service throughout his life.

Outside of his military service, Jimmy found joy in the simple things he loved most. He had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the freedom of the open road, and he was a devoted fan of Tennessee Volunteers Football. Known for his quiet strength, strong work ethic and deep devotion to his family, Jimmy was a man of few words—but when he spoke, it was often with a quick wit and a sense of humor that brought smiles to those around him.

Above all, Jimmy was a deeply loved and cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his brother, Tommy Tallent and wife (Angie Tallent); daughters, Kim Connard and husband (Gary Connard) and their children Kasey, Amos, and Dwayne and great-grandchildren Rylee, Brooke, Kaiden, and Mia; Kelly Williams and husband (Chris Williams), their children, Steven, Heather, Hannah and Hailey and great-grandchildren Emi, Jude, Gracyn, Kwinten, Aria and soon-to-be-born Silas and Jessy Williams and husband (Brian Williams), their children Grace, Emily, Caleb, Joshua and Elijah and great-grandchild Elowyn.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Tallent; his daughter, Karen Denise Tallent; his sister, Betty Raider; and his great-granddaughter, Kamryn Garland.

Jimmy will be remembered for his strength, his humility, his quiet humor and the unwavering love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
