James R. Smith, age 86 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully July 12, 2024. Jim worked at Park National Bank and McWilliams and Co. until retirement in 2003. He was a long-standing member of Fountain City Church, formerly First Baptist Church of Fountain City, where he served faithfully in a multitude of capacities until he could no longer attend. He also volunteered and served as treasurer at Fountain City Ministry Center. Jim was passionate about his love of his Lord, his family and friends. He dedicated his life and time to serving and spreading God’s love. He was a true mentor to many, leading by example. He will be missed my many. He is preceded in death by beloved wife Sarah T. Smith, son Mark S. Smith, sister Jean Wilson Paylor, parents Roger and Betty Smith. Survived by daughters Jill (Jay) Weekley and Joy Friley (Tony) Hendricks, grandchildren Zachery (Afton) Smith, Kayla Weekley (Matt) Bruner, Rachel Smith, Molly Weekley, Hannah Friley (Tommy) Cunningham, Ellie Weekley, and Jonah Friley, special great-grandson Memphis Bruner. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel with service to follow, Rev. Donny Wadley and Rev. Mike Powell officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45am Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00am interment, Rev. David Haynes officiating.
