James "Jimmy" Darrell Lackey

James Darrell Lackey, lovingly known as “Jimmy,” passed away on April 3, 2026, at Creekview Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born on August 3, 1935, to James Murphy Lackey and Ruth Duff Lackey. Jimmy was a devoted member of City View Baptist Church and attended Fulton High School. He enjoyed playing softball in church leagues well into his 50s and was also an avid golfer. He worked at various warehouses throughout his career and spent many years in the grocery industry before retiring from Kroger in Fountain City. At the age of 77, he suffered a stroke and remained homebound for the rest of his years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of many years, Emma Lee McMahon Lackey; his mother- and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Wayne McMahon; brother-in-law, Sam Kirby; and nephews Darrell Brewster and Todd Kirby.

Jimmy is survived by his sons, Darrell Lackey and Gary Lackey of Knoxville; sisters Norma Lewis of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and Debbie Kirby of Knoxville; nephews Christopher Kirby of Knoxville and Greg Brewster of Colorado; nieces Kathy Ford of Sterling, Virginia, Terri Reed of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and Jan Kirby of Knoxville; along with several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses at Creekview Health and Rehabilitation and UT Hospice for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 7, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Family and friends will travel in procession from the service to the cemetery.
